New Years Day in Sangkhlaburi

We wake up early to make our way down to Mon Bridge in Sangkhlaburi and get the monks blessing for the new year. It’s a brisk and refreshing 20 degrees Celsius this morning. Chanya thinks it’s cold whereas I think it is just like an early autumn day in Sydney.

We set off to join the throng of people on the bridge and then to the temple to make merit. We then take a 2-hour drive to the west side of the lake where we plan to spend the second night. We stop off to grab some Som Tam and roast chicken at a roadside coffee shop. We then continue on to a small mining town west of the lake called Pilok. Once there we decide to rent out a 4 person bungalow for our second night which was cozy.
