Thai Style Life Style | Hungry Girlfriend, Isaan Food & Everyday Thailand

Sometimes life in Thailand just writes the script for you. Tonight, I had a craving for some proper Isaan food — and when Chanya walked in the door saying she was hungry too, the decision was made! We headed over to Dtam Liia Sàak on Săai Hâa, a great local spot with that classic outdoor Thai vibe.

Chanya tries to explain the name of the diner — and trust me, it’s worth the listen. I also share a funny callback to a language mix-up from last year involving sweet chili sauce. Let’s just say tones matter in Thai… especially when “nam jim” can mean something very different if you get it wrong!

Over dinner, I drop a mention of our Discord channel, especially in light of the current political climate here in Thailand. I tend to avoid discussing politics on-camera — not because I don’t have opinions, but because as a foreigner living here on the grace of the Thai government, I believe it’s respectful to stay neutral in public.
Thailand’s political situation affects daily life — from visa policy to national mood — but as someone who can’t vote, I’d rather keep those deeper conversations to private spaces where there’s room for mutual understanding. Sometimes, knowing when not to speak is part of living well abroad.

Dinner was delicious, of course — Chanya even ordered seconds and some takeaway for mum. Just another night in Thailand, but one that shows what Thai style life style really means.
