Paying our respect for the King

Well, it’s October 26th and today we make our way to Putthamonthon for the flower laying ceremony to pay our respect for the King. The collective method in the Thai culture is to lay sandalwood flowers at the altar, but given that there will be over 20 million people wishing to do this, hundreds of altars have been set up around the Kingdom so that the Thai people can bid their favourite King farewell.

Our little adventure started out with a motorcycle taxi from our house around the back streets Nong Khang Phlu where we live and then onto Putthamonthon Sai 4 heading north. When we joined the main road, the queue to enter the temple grounds stretched back maybe 3-4 km. Our friends had already joined the queue earlier so we got a bit of a head start on the queue, but as you will see from the video, there was still a good queue in front of us.
