More problems with my computer system

One of the most frustrating problems I have here in Thailand is sorting out issues when things break or simply don’t work properly. We go back to IT City and see if we can sort out the ongoing reliability of my gaming system.

Again, I hit the same warranty snag where the vendor doesn’t honour their warranty directly which means shipping the system off to some unknown place for repair. This, of course, presents a security issue where they can’t fully test the whole system because I would need to remove the hard drives first, simply because I can’t trust anyone with my sensitive data.

In frustration, I then went looking for someone who could look at the issue on the spot. There are a few places at the mall where they can perform some tests, and the second place we tried had a go at fixing the issue. Their diagnostics found that the CPU was reaching a critical temperature, so they replaced the recommended Intel CPU fan with an out of market massive heat sync and fan assembly. After reassembly, they ran the same tests which showed a full 20-degree reduction in CPU temperature, and the memory test program I’ve been checking with also gave an indication of the all clear.

I’m now hoping this has solved the issue and it only cost 1,900 Baht.
