Our Loi Krathong 2018

It’s that special time of year where the Thai’s celebrate and pay respect to the goddess of water after the rainy season. Loi Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar, so the exact date of the festival changes every year.

The name could be translated as “to float a basket,” and comes from the tradition of making Krathong or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river.

The beauty contests that accompanies the festival is known as “Nopphamat Queen Contests” and you will see many beautiful young women adorned in bright and traditional Thai costume which is one of the best parts of the festival.

Although the loudspeakers were at full volume tonight, we still enjoyed our evening even if we were significantly deaf at the end of it!
