It’s a full moon and it’s the 12th full moon for the lunar calendar which means tonight is Loi Krathong. This is the time when Thai’s all over the world will find a spot near the water and appease the water goddess with their floating basket. In return, the water goddess will grant them a wish. At least that’s how the written tradition is played out but in reality, it’s just another reason to celebrate the nightlife here in Bangkok and all over Thailand. Given the current civil unrest around the country, our local celebration was somewhat subdued from previous years but it may also have been due to the rain we had only 90 minutes before things got started. It didn’t really worry us, so we jumped on the scooter and rode the 300 meters around to our local temple to join in the celebration with our local community.
