Lunch Date in Thailand – Cool Season, Mall Shopping & Everyday Life
This Thailand lunch date is a relaxed Wednesday for once — although Chanya still had an early start thanks to some banking errands before we headed out. Once that was done, it was time for lunch, a bit of shopping, and another very typical slice of everyday life here.
A Thailand Lunch Date in the Cool Season
We head to Jùm Rim Naa Cafe, now under new management, and as we’re walking into the restaurant we hear a gunshot echo across the nearby rice fields. It’s not something we ever fully get used to, but here it’s a common way farmers scare pigeons off the crops — one of those rural Thailand details that still catches us off guard.
Inside, Chanya spots pizza on the A-frame board, debates where to sit (as usual), and we scan the QR-code menu before realising the location has changed names. We’ve added the updated map pin below to make things easier if you’re passing through the area.
Over lunch, I talk through my dramas for the week — including a full Windows 11 rebuild — and we chat about planning a future camping escape once everything lines up. The wildlife around the restaurant, the food arriving, and the noticeably cooler weather all remind us why the cool season is our favourite time of year in Thailand.
After lunch, we head over to Central Salaya. On the way, we pass areas affected by water inundation from the Tha Chin River, a reminder of how seasonal water levels quietly shape daily life here.
At the mall, we wander through Christmas displays and sales, check prices, glance at flash memory deals, and answer one of the questions we’re often asked: how much does a computer actually cost in Thailand? We also touch on the classic “up to you” dating dilemma (a trap best avoided), admire the festive look at Tops supermarket, and check the current gold price before heading home.
If you’re curious how these mid-week routines fit into our bigger picture, you can read more on our Retiring in Thailand page.
We wrap up with our weekly shopping tally and call it another relaxed — and very Thai — Wednesday.
