Temple picnic for Asalha Bucha Day

Thai people are among the most religious people in the world, so like all Buddha days during the year, they are taken very seriously, but this particular Buddha Day is one of the more important ones regarding good fortune throughout the year. I still have a somewhat limited understanding of the particular Buddhist holidays, but the one thing that always seems to be consistent is this concept of getting more luck. Asalha Bucha Day observes Buddha’s first sermon in the Deer Park in Benares, India. This is where Buddha revealed the Four Noble Truths to five ascetics.

For us, we’ve taken a long drive west of Bangkok to an interesting Temple called Wat Rai Tang Tong. The story behind the temple involves a monk who ran away from home to study the mystic arts. He became popular through his reservations of the scripture and has been associated with a Turtle spirit. The large statue in the main temple is certainly impressive that’s for sure.
