Living in Thailand: The Yin to Last Week’s Yang

Life in Thailand isn’t always sunshine and sushi rolls. This follow-up to our last video flips the coin to explore the other side of expat life — the delays, the bureaucracy, the overly expensive coffee… and yes, my existential dread about AI taking over the planet 😅

Today, I head into Bangkok solo while Chanya works her new job. I need to get a statutory declaration witnessed at the Australian Embassy — easier said than done when Aussie expats here are mostly retired! With extra time to spare (because, of course, I was early 🙄), I take a walk through One Bangkok, grab a coffee that costs more than lunch, and reflect on the odd beauty of this place: pristine towers on one side, spiked concrete walls on the other.

Paperwork sorted (thanks to throwing more money at the problem, as always), I make it back just in time to meet up with Chanya. We grab dinner at Hachiban and enjoy what little time we have left on our only day off together.

This is the reality — the Yin to last week’s Yang. It’s not perfect, but it’s ours.

💬 Let us know in the comments what you don’t love about where you live. Or if AI freaks you out too.
