You know that feeling after a holiday when you just need to recover from the recovery?
Well, that’s how this week started—until Monday morning when disaster struck. A seal burst in our downstairs bumgun hose, and before coffee, I’m knee-deep in water trying to fix it. In the process, I snagged my already-sore back on the tap fitting in our very tight bathroom. Let’s just say… it hurt.
The previous week’s jolts on the back of the pickup had already left me aching, so this pushed me over the edge. Time for painkillers! But when we got to my usual pharmacy—bad luck—my regular pharmacist was on his delayed Songkran break. Luckily, Chanya knew another spot, but before that? Lunch, of course.
We stopped at a sweet little bistro called Nose to Tail, and I ordered the marinated pepper pork steak. One word: amazing. Over lunch, I chat through my back problems and offer a few tips for anyone planning to live in Thailand long-term—especially on how to navigate the Thai healthcare system, which definitely has its own rhythm compared to the West.
After lunch, we sort out the meds at Chanya’s pharmacist and then do the weekly shop. Back at home, I take one of the pills and by the time I’m climbing the stairs—sweet, sweet relief.
Just another day in our Thai life.
