Thailand’s Festival of Lights – Our Loi Krathong 2025

Every year, Thailand celebrates Loi Krathong (ลอยกระทง) — the Festival of Lights. People gather near rivers, ponds, and lakes to float small offerings called krathongs. These handmade floats, made from banana leaves, flowers, and candles, help people let go of worries and welcome new beginnings with peace. It’s one of the most loved traditions for anyone living in Thailand or visiting during November.

This year’s Loi Krathong festival in Thailand was quieter because of the 30-day mourning period for the late Queen Mother. Even so, the air was filled with the smell of Thai street food and the warm glow of candles. The lights over the Tha Chin River reminded us how community and renewal stay strong in Thai culture.

We joined the event at Don Wai, our local riverside area in Nakhon Pathom. After weaving through scooter traffic, we explored rows of market stalls packed with beautifully decorated krathongs. We picked superhero-themed ones — Batman and Spiderman, of course! On the floating pontoon, we released them into the river, starting another peaceful year in Thailand.

Afterwards, it was pure local life. We grabbed street food, laughed with vendors, and watched Chanya hunt for clothes. No Thai festival feels complete without snacks and bargains! Nights like these remind us why we love everyday life in Thailand — simple, warm, and full of fun.
