We take a short drive to Chanya’s uncle’s house where we have a family lunch and celebrate her cousin’s graduation. One of the things I really find a lot of joy in is seeing the closeness of family here in Thailand. This is something I believe has been lost in the modern western culture where commercialism and selfism have taken over the psyche and family is not given much importance. This is not to say that family life in Thailand is always plain sailing. You may notice in this video that Pa and Mae are not present and there are a few reasons behind that. The main one being that there has been a rift within Pa’s side of the family were his brother runs his business and is always showing off about his success and elevated social status. This doesn’t worry us as we’re part of a younger generation and these cultural issues don’t hold the same sway for us so we’re just here to celebrate Chanya’s cousin’s success in her studies.
