Chanya’s Cousin gets Married

The main reason we took the trip up to Sukhothai was to see Chanya’s Cousin get married. It was a 90-minute drive from our house in Si Samrong, but in true Thai tradition, it was a festive occasion.

One thing that seemed to come across to me as a complete outsider is the procession where the groom goes to take the bride but has to pass a number of tests presented by the bridal party. It came across that the bridal party would not accept any pretenders but only the groom once he passed all the courtship tests. It was a very enlightening experience for me and nothing like the weddings I’ve been at in western culture.
