In today’s video, we’re off to get the MG in for its annual service—a process that started with a few too many reminder calls and a case of “losing face”, Thai style.
Chanya had had enough of the constant calls from the dealership, which led to a bit of tension over the phone and a surprising reluctance to go back and potentially embarrass the staff. This kind of face-saving culture in Thailand still fascinates me, and it’s one of those things that’s hard to wrap your head around until you live here.
To help smooth things over, I chose a place for lunch I’ve been meaning to try for years—a cozy little Italian-style spot with a proper wood-fired pizza oven. While the pizza looked amazing, I opted for something I haven’t had in ages here: pork lasagna. It did not disappoint!
With lunch sorted, Chanya made the call and got a same-day 2PM appointment—a concept that still baffles my Australian brain. Back home, you’re booking these things weeks in advance! We headed to the MG dealer, settled in for the 2-hour wait, and reflected once again on how different, but efficient, life in Thailand can be.
