Our day out at Ayutthaya – Part 1 – Ayutthaya Elephant Palace

We decided to get out of the City today and take a run up to Ayutthaya to do a bit of sightseeing. Our first stop was the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace which is quite popular amongst the locals and visiting tourists. You can enjoy the elephant show and take a ride around the area on a traditional elephant taxi.

From an ethical standpoint, some experts feel that it’s inhumane to ride elephants at any place except for on their super-strong necks. As with other tourist elephant camps in Thailand and elsewhere, the Ayutthaya elephants support a mahout on their necks and up to two people in seats strung to their backs — quite a lot of weight to take on at once.
